A Little Emma Turkey Talk

Emma Meets Turkeys on Vimeo
There were 26 turkeys in our yard which is quite common, especially this time of year. It is mating season and the Tom's are always strutting around. Emma has figured out how to talk to them.

An Emma Day

Our little artist with her colored Easter eggs.

Emmy spent the night with us last night. I took a vacation day today so I could spend the day with her to color Easter eggs, bake cookies and go to a movie. As usual she was up and running early and insisted that we color the eggs first thing. She is becoming such an independent little person and so capable of doing everything. Last night she spent about an hour making a long spring/Easter banner to hang on the wall and then we played about a zillion Hungry Hungry Hippo games before bed. Part of our bed time ritual is either Dave or I will read a chapter from one of the Little House on the Prairie books. We are on the second book in the set. She just loves those books and mind you is completely capable of reading the by herself. But she likes us to read to her and we love to do it. It gives us a little special one on one time with her.

She made a special paper Easter egg to hang at her mom's memorial where we put some daffodils. We had lunch at McDonalds and then off to see The Last Mimzy. It was very cute but a little bit confusing for her. I had to explain the time sequence to her because it kept jumping back and forth between the present and the future. After the movie we had a blizzard at Dairy Queen and then home. She will be spending the weekend with her Nanna and Poppy in Sisters while we keep Lucy. She has a countdown going on for her birthday next Saturday and has put her name on every calendar I own including my office calendar just in case I might forget when her birthday is.

26 Years

Our weekend in Lincoln City was so relaxing. It seems way to long since we have been able to do this, just the two of us. It reminded me of our early anniversaries when our children were small and we would take a weekend for our anniversary and get away to Boise. We never could afford much but it was a nice break.

We stayed at a lovely bed and breakfast, the same one that Jill and Wade have stayed in a couple of times. It was a nice surprise that Rosie, the owner, was such a down to earth lady and very artistic and creative. Her decorating was somewhat quirky yet down home also. Very comfortable and inviting and we felt at ease immediately.

We went shopping at the outlet stores and came home with a new comforter set, a pasta/steamer pot, some Easter outfits for the grandkids and baking/cooling rack. I also bought one of Rosie's glass plates. We had two lovely dinners out Friday and Saturday nights and lunch at Mo's Sunday on our way home. We walked on a couple of beaches and we also went to a movie, The Wild Hogs. It was pretty cute, kind of corny but I love corny. It has been a great long time since we have went to a movie. There is nothing better than seeing one on the big screen with the smell of popcorn and such. It rained all day Saturday but Sunday was absolutely gorgeous and clear with lots of sun and very little wind. All in all, a wonderful weekend.

Beautiful day at Rocky Creek Wayside

Anniversary Getaway and Peekaboo

Our 26th anniversary is today and our great kids gave us a wonderful gift. They are sending us to a bed and breakfast at the coast for the weekend, no kids or grandkids allowed! It is the first time we have been able to get away in a very long time. Aren't we the luckiest parents to have such sweet kids? Jill, Wade, Byron and Kelli came to have dinner with us last night and this video shows Byron playing peekaboo with me through the glass on our china hutch. What a cutie!

Thank you kids! We will see you when we return. We love you all.

Scaring Grandad

Lucy spent a lot of her time trying to growl and scare Dave. Cute!

An Old Man and a Baby

We kept Lucy over night on Tuesday and I am glad to say she was feeling much better even though she still has a cough. But when she feels better she definitely is in a much better frame of mind. She even played with Grandad Dave much to his delight. He got to spend some time reading with her and playing with the dolls and toys. But the old guy could barely get up off the floor after being down that low for so long (hee hee).

Birthday Event

Kelli's birthday was Sunday but we celebrated on Saturday with dinner and cake and icecream. GG and Grandad Max, Uncle Gary and Jill, Wade, Byron, Lucy and Emma were all there as well as Wade's nephew, Noah. The picutre above shows Kelli and what looks like a fairly normal family waiting for her to blow out her candles. But wait!!!

Lucy played some songs on the piano in between screeching "Mo" (or no in baby language). She was kind of a little grouch because she didn't feel very good.

Emmy with her little smile made us some easter egg decorations and put out all of my easter decorations for me.

All the while Byron ran on the treadmill just like daddy.

BUT who are these people? Could they be related?

Poor Emmy. She has been influenced by her aunts I'm afraid.

A Giggling Little Boy

Silly Byron on Vimeo

Byron was having a fit of giggles with grandma and watching himself in the video screen. Sorry it is so dark but I didn't turn on the lights, just grabbed the camera.

Jill and Wade went to the coast for a few days to celebrate a late (two year late) anniversary. They missed their first because they had Byron a few days before and this last one, Kyla had just passed away. So they really deserve a few days away. I have taken a couple of days of vacation to stay home with Byron while they are away. He is a little character and so very different than the girls. I had forgotten how loud little boys can be even at such a young age. When he hollers, you know it. He loves to be chased and runs down the hallway and from one end of the house to the other. I think all this room to run has worn him out. He has been very snuggly today and was very tired tonight.

We took a walk to to mailbox each day and he loved seeing the neighbors pigs and geese. If the weather hadn't been so rainy we would have spent more time outside. He loves to chase the chickens but not because he likes to see them run. In fact he gets upset that they do run....he wants to hold, squeeze and pet them. He is so strong and big I am afraid the chickens wouldn't have a chance if he did catch up with them. He has been obsessed now with climbing on the treadmill and walking backwards until he falls off the end. When he does he just laughs....silly boy.

Dave has some hurt feelings because he won't let him hold him. He used to go to Dave all the time but is going through this stage of only letting women hold him. He likes to talk to him and all but thats about it. I have really enjoyed spending some one on one time with him and look forward in June to having him for a week while Jill and Wade go to Jamaica....a Christmas gift.
