A Few Days of Fun

I took some vacation time and kept Lucy and Emma for several days and nights this week. The day care facility that they were going to closed and the parents were not given much notice. Jed has them on a waiting list for full time care at the University day care but so far there are only part time openings. Perhaps once school begins some full time openings might become available. But in the mean time Kelli and another lady will be helping out and I will try to fill in when I can.

While the girls were here we had lots of fun. Emma baked brownies, which turned out delicious! Grandad Dave is still munching them every day with a big smile. We took walks to the mail box and to see and feed the neighbors goats, fed the chickens, gathered the eggs, swam in the pool, made forts with blankets and chairs, read LOTS of books, finger painted, colored and snuggled.

Here Lucy decided to call Grandad.

You would think he was really on the line by the look on her face. Listening intently.

These next two photos show her looking at herself in the screen on my camera.....quite the tonsil shots!

Emmy and Lucy in their swim suits before going out to swim.

Sorry I didn't take photos while swimming. Too busy keeping them afloat!

Here they are in Uncle Brian's Sky Chair

Get Ready!

Grandma's strong cow milking arms push them high, high out towards the pool! I know Emma loved it but Lucy wasn't quite sure about that.

Byron Is A Chick Chaser

Last night Jill and Byron came to visit. As usual Byron just loves to see the chickens. This time his mommy let him do a little chasing. He would love to catch one but I don't think the chickens really want to cooperate. Those chickens might not lay an egg for a day or two after this.

Begging mommy to let him go back in the chicken coop.

Maybe a little crying will convince her to let him in.

Wistfully watching.

A couple chickens escape and off goes Byron on the chase.

After a bath and dinner. Playing with mommy. Funny thing is that he was holding Jill's hand and spinning her around on the floor. He is sooooo strong. What a bruiser!

Birthday Party

Saturday evening we attended our nieces fifth birthday party and took Jill, Byron Lucy, and Emma. Emmy said she really had fun playing with all of her cousins. She just adores them. They are sweet little kids and have such good manners.

Byron striking a GQ pose for me before we went to Tailen's birthday party.

Lucy and Byron were let loose from the car seats.

They seem to be saying, "OK, what to do and where to go next".

Little birthday girl, Tailen under her duck pinata.

The Evans cousins posing before the pinata (except the dark haired little girl, she is a neighbor or perhaps Dora the Explorer)

Getting ready to bust a duck gut

Eating some of the goods from the nether regions of a duck and preparing to go into a sugar induced coma

Waiting to open gifts. I think there was a movie on. Look how all eyes are glued to the set.

Byron found a mirror to make faces in at Uncle Mike and Aunt Linda's

Lucy thought it was great fun hiding under the plastic cloth covering the counter. She is just the right height.

Little Mini Me Lucy

Lately Lucy has not had much of an appetite and has been rather picky when eating her dinner at our house. But tonight she did great. She ate all of her dinner as well as her peaches afterward.

As a reward she picked out a package of Curious George fruit snacks. She ran over and hopped up on the chair to eat them. I noticed her talking and sharing with someone.

When I walked over to look this is what I saw. A little mini me on her chest.

The fruit snacks were about the same size as her little friend. I wonder how many little mini me ate!

Tomorrow morning we get to have cousin Byron to play with and then we will pick up Emmy for a birthday party for cousin Tailen in the evening. Fun!

A Little Phone Message

Lucy is in the process of being potty trained and she does pretty good. On Monday evening Dave and I were outside working and she called to tell me of her accomplishments so we didn't hear the phone. Listen to this cute little voice I found on our answering machine.

Eight Fun Facts

I have been tagged by Lindsay and Jill. So hmmmm. Lets see........

Here are 8 facts about me:

1. I love to read. I used to read book after book after book when I was growing up. Most parents love it that their kids read but mine used to be embarrassed because I would invite friends over and then just disappear and read. My mom used to really get mad at me for that. Ha! What happened to me? I still love to read but about two lines in now I fall asleep. I call it my sleeping pill. Some people say I read with my eyes closed. You know the book still open and my arms raised up. I swear I am just resting my eyes.

2. I love magazines. I am addicted but Dave is sending me through a 12-step program. I try to read them all but of course I can't and they pile up. But I just can't bear to get rid of them without at least tearing out the recipes and stuff.

3. That brings up recipes. I have a huge drawer full of recipes that I have torn out or saved from various places intending to put them on cards or in a book. Never have got to that yet so of course I tear through that drawer when I am looking for a recipe. Don't anyone EVER LOOK in my recipe drawer. Embarrassing!

4. I have watched Days of Our Lives for 31 years. How's that for aging myself. And I know, I know. Soaps are dumb but darn it, I think Days would not have a faithful following if it weren't for me. In fact I was kind of hoping that they would select me to be a new star....maybe I could be Bo and Hope's stalker. Or better yet, Marlena was possessed by the devil once so maybe I could come on as Susan Banks and now channel the dead. Yeah that's it.

5. I can squeal like a pig. No, really. I can pretty much sound like the biggest hog in the world. In fact if there was a pig squealing contest I would pretty much win. I once squealed an answering machine message for our phone. Proud moment.

6. I love, love, love to dance. However, I pretty much look like a chicken. Maybe that is why Dave won't take dance lessons with me. I twirls 'roun an 'roun. Oops! Look out floor when I come tumbling down.

7. I once scared a whole troop of boy scouts with my brother while they were camping out by hiding on a hillside and growling like bears and rolling boulders. You can tell I was raised by wolves.

8. When I was little, maybe about seven or eight, I was also going to be a beautician. I cut my bangs to about an eighth of an inch and then when my mom got mad and asked why I did that I lied and told her I didn't. I said my brother, John must have done it while I was sleeping.

Gosh. I can think of tons more. I guess I am really old because there is so many embarrassing weird facts that just keep popping in my mind.

OK --- Kelli, Barb, Loretta, Kristi, Karen K., April Showers, Country Doctors Wife you have been tagged. Share 8 facts with us about yourself! Then tag 8 other people! Have fun!

In Our Hearts Forever

May 3, 1978 - August 13, 2006

Some people come into our lives and quickly go
Some people move our souls to dance
They awaken us to understanding
With the passing whisper of their wisdom
Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon
They stay in our lives for a while
Leave footprints on our hearts
And we are never, ever the same.

A Prayer

I came across this prayer a while back. I don't know the author but I do love it. My sister, Loretta, adopted a beautiful little girl six years ago from Guatemala and I think of her when I read this. Isn't it beautiful?

"We pray for children who put chocolate fingers everywhere, who like
to be tickled, who stomp in puddles and ruin their new pants, who
sneak popsicles before supper, who erase holes in math workbooks, who never can find their shoes....

And we pray for those who stare at photographers from behind barbed
wire, who can't bound down the street in a new pair of sneakers, who
never "counted potatoes," who are born in places we wouldn't be
caught dead, who never go to the circus, who live in an X-rated

We pray for children who bring us sticky kisses and fistfuls of
dandelions, who sleep with the dog and bury goldfish, who hug us in a
hurry and forget their lunch money, who cover themselves with Band-
Aids and sing off key, who squeeze toothpaste all over the sink, who
slurp their soup....

And we pray for those who never get dessert, who have no safe blanket to drag behind them, who watch their parents die, who
can't find any bread to steal, who don't have any rooms to clean up,
who pictures are not on anyone's dresser, whose monsters are real...

We pray for children who spend all their allowance before Tuesday,
who throw tantrums in the grocery store and pick their food, who like
ghost stories, who shove dirty clothes under the bed and never rinse
out the tub, who love visits from the tooth fairy, who don't like to
be kissed in front of the school bus, who squirm in church or temple
and scream in the phone....

And we pray for those whose nightmares come in the daytime, who will eat anything, who have never seen a dentist, who aren't spoiled by anybody, who go to bed hungry and cry themselves to sleep, who live and move and have no being.

We pray for children who want to be carried, for those who must, for
those we never give up on, and those who will grab the hand of anyone kind enough to offer it."

Bubbles Part Two

Byron anticipating the bubble his mama is beginning to blow

Little Bit of Lucy

We kept Lucy last night while Emmy went to a movie with her dad. Here she is all dressed up in her new shorts and shirt before going to day care this morning.

Fun and A Bubble or Two

This picture of Byron and Lucy makes me laugh. They were playing peek-a-boo and trying to out screech each other when Byron decided it was more interesting to take a closer look at Lucy's pony tail on top of her head.

Two little hands playing the piano.

Lucy and a little bubble blowing

We tried to teach her to blow out but as you can see by her bangs flying up her lower lip comes out and she blows up instead of out. Hilarious!

Catching a few bubbles in flight!
